2022 – Blooms Continue

For the past several years, many members of Henry Shaw Cactus and Succulent Society have been expanding their outdoor garden areas and trying a variety of cold-hardy succulents. Below are some of the plants that have been blooming in the hardy gardens of Jolie Krupnik and Mike Hellmann.

Echinocereus reichenbachii.

Escobaria organensis (?).

Purchased in 2016, the central plant, Hesperaloe parviflora ‘yellow,’ is blooming for the first time. Accompanying plants are Virginia creeper, goldenrod and Shasta daisies.

One of Mike Hellmann’s cold-hardy gardens recently featured three blooming Echinocereus triglochidiatus cacti. In the middle right is a Yucca elata purchased at our April sale that will branch and grow several feet tall with wide heads of foliage.
