Departure of Dave Janas Opens HSCSS Directorship
(August 2020)

HSCSS Program Director Dave Janas has left his position as a horticulturist at Missouri Botanical Garden and is headed home to New Hampshire, leaving the program position for Henry Shaw Cactus and Succulent Society vacant.
“For us, it is a great loss,” society President Ralph Olliges said. “Thanks, Dave, for all that you have done over the past year. We wish you the very best!”
After joining HSCSS, Janas took the title of program director in 2019 and initially worked with Matthew Norman in planning meeting programs. He also organized member tours of Missouri Botanical Garden and encouraged volunteering in the desert greenhouse.
At Missouri Botanical Garden, Janas’ duties in support of the indoor conservatories included the care and acquisition of desert plants for the garden collection. Janas also worked with plants and trees in the Climatron.
Before leaving, Janas expressed that he enjoyed his time in St. Louis and was glad to be a part of an active club like Henry Shaw Cactus and Succulent Society.
With Janas’ departure, HSCSS seeks a new volunteer to organize program content for club meetings and other activities. The program director coordinates with the rest of the board of directors to develop program ideas, set schedules and make logistical arrangements.
Those interested in the program directorship should contact Olliges at rolliges@webster.edu or 314-620-6850 to discuss the position.
