– Euphorbia sakarahaensis (2010)
By Barbara Gardner (April 2010)
Euphorbia sakarahaensis is a species of plant in the Euphorbiaceae family described by Werner Rauh in 1992. It is native to Madagascar and found around Toliara Sakaraha Forest in the Sakaraha/Mahabokoka area, thus getting the “sakarahaensis” name.
Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forest under trees. It is threatened by habitat loss by human activities such as fires and agriculture.
Euphorbia sakarahaensis grows in well-drained soil with medium water and medium sun. The caudex can grow to 5 cm in diameter and the branches up to 50 cm long. The tiny 4-mm flowers are red-brown in color. Propagation is from seeds or stem cuttings from the adult plants.
